“I’m not sure what’s happened to this restaurant. It was well managed when we moved to the Gulf Coast years ago, and I often stopped on my way home from work. Lately the quality of the food has diminished to the point where we are not going back to this location. I wanted key lime pie on a recent visit, but my waitress said they didn’t have any “thawed.” The last time my wife and I went, the buffalo shrimp were different than the ones we usually get and they tasted like super market freezer section fare. My wife’s quesadilla arrived without the guacamole normally served on the side, and when she asked for some, our waitress brought out a plastic container in which the guacamole on top had turned dark gray. This is unacceptable for a restaurant where the average check for two is between $30 and $50. I have on occasion gotten my coffee in a dirty cup or my beer in a greasy glass. Any restaurant or server can have an off day, but these are systemic issues and management or the franchisor must address them immediately..”

Nearly nine years after the founding of Facebook, the social media network has become galaxy all its own. It is both expanding and ever-present. At the very minimum, restaurants have some customers who are users, and they are spending a lot of time using it.

Like other social media, Facebook exists somewhat outside the reach of search engines and traditional webpages. This causes confusion for restaurant owners who think a website is enough. A good portion of online activities (and marketing opportunities) happens in Facebook and your website without a Facebook Page cannot give you access to people on Facebook.

Facebook is where a restaurant owner must start for social media marketing. Facebook’s preeminence is not being challenged at this point as all other social media combine doesn’t match the traffic and membership of Facebook. Even more importantly, Facebook eats up people’s time.

And much like the web proper, business is done in social media. No doubt, there are advertisements but even more importantly, there is marketing. Businesses carve out an identity and following of customers through Social Media. As mentioned before, none is more central as Facebook. And even though, unless you were under a rock for the last few years, you know some things about Facebook. Most though are at a loss in crafting Facebook to expand their business.

“They can never get our order right. We’ve been eating at Hooters for years and this is by far the worse one we’ve been to. Our wings are never grilled extra like we asked for and made a point to let them know we do not mind waiting longer for them. After football season ended, we quit trying there.”

“Below Standard. I Love Hooters, but this place is so hit or miss. 70% of the time I get really bad service. The food is usually average at best. The wait staff gets focused on one table and seats and chills. Not impressed at all. At least it is not as bad as the one of Airport BLVD.”
