Nearly nine years after the founding of Facebook, the social media network has become galaxy all its own. It is both expanding and ever-present. At the very minimum, restaurants have some customers who are users, and they are spending a lot of time using it.

Like other social media, Facebook exists somewhat outside the reach of search engines and traditional webpages. This causes confusion for restaurant owners who think a website is enough. A good portion of online activities (and marketing opportunities) happens in Facebook and your website without a Facebook Page cannot give you access to people on Facebook.

Facebook is where a restaurant owner must start for social media marketing. Facebook’s preeminence is not being challenged at this point as all other social media combine doesn’t match the traffic and membership of Facebook. Even more importantly, Facebook eats up people’s time.

And much like the web proper, business is done in social media. No doubt, there are advertisements but even more importantly, there is marketing. Businesses carve out an identity and following of customers through Social Media. As mentioned before, none is more central as Facebook. And even though, unless you were under a rock for the last few years, you know some things about Facebook. Most though are at a loss in crafting Facebook to expand their business.

“Was the dirtiest place ever. Cooks outside on a deck area in back smoking the whole time we were there. Trash dumped out next to the entry stairs. Terrible service. We spilled a beverage leaving standing water on the floor. They never offered to help, mop, wipe……nothing. Asked for plates several times. Never came. Had to eat wings on napkins. I was embarrassed for the Hooters name. Terrible.”

“Was really excited to take my brother to his very first hooters experience. Went to the gulf shores location thinking it would be good because it’s on the beach, I was WRONG!! It was far beyond disappointing. Waitress was disappointing in looks and enthusiasm. She wore a zip-up pajama outfit (not the usual hooters uniform) we asked her about the sauces and she didn’t seem like she wanted to bother with our questions. She wasn’t sweet, didn’t smile or try to make the experience enjoyable even after I told her this was his first hooters experience. Had to walk to the bar for a drink refill. Maximum of four tables but it took 30 minutes for our food to come out. Fried pickles were limp, cold, greasy and over salted. Burger was comparable to sonic and they ignored our request for bacon on it. Tv’s are busted by the door. They don’t use the zip-line for orders she just walked them to the cooks who kept walking in the back for some reason. Had to ask about bootees t-shirts twice before waitress socializing at the bar would get a shirt for us. Overall this was the absolute most disappointing and sad experience for us both. Didn’t even get the hooters charm. Will not be going back to the gulf shores location! Spend the gas and drive to the daphne location which is charming, the girls are friendly and very helpful and don’t mind making a special visit for a first timer.”

Millions of people globally use Zomato every day to decide where to eat. While location and cost are factors a lot of folks consider, a restaurant’s rating also plays a role in one deciding whether or not to eat there. Given that it plays such a central role, we feel it’s important that a restaurant’s rating should be representative of the experiences people have had at that establishment.
