Nearly nine years after the founding of Facebook, the social media network has become galaxy all its own. It is both expanding and ever-present. At the very minimum, restaurants have some customers who are users, and they are spending a lot of time using it.
Like other social media, Facebook exists somewhat outside the reach of search engines and traditional webpages. This causes confusion for restaurant owners who think a website is enough. A good portion of online activities (and marketing opportunities) happens in Facebook and your website without a Facebook Page cannot give you access to people on Facebook.

This place is horrible, their margaritas were awful and when we asked the server if these were pre-made. She said they were horrible because we got the cheaper kind! (2 for $7.50, the “good” ones were 2 for $10.00)

However I had such a horrible experience back in 2010, I decided this taco Tuesday. I would try it again, mainly cause it was so close to my house. 5 years later still disappointing. I really don’t know how these people are still in business!

The worst service ever and we didn’t even have a bite to eat. Came here for Cinco De Mayo around 3:30pm. There were about 5 tables of people. The hostess tried to sit my wife and I at a 6 top table. We asked for a booth, she replied that she would have to wipe one off. After sitting there for over 10 minutes and 3 of the servers looked right at us, no one approached our table.

When I went to the back of the room near the server station to ask if we had a server, I was told “We’re a little busy BUD”! Yes, 3 servers and 5 tables… Busy… We left and won’t be back!!

Our waiter, Fernado, was awesome, but the food was not. Our “queso” was melted American cheese which is not what I go to a Mexican restaurant for. The shrimp quesadillas that I ordered were just glorified tacos and they had no taste of any kind. The food literally tasted like nothing and had no seasoning of any kind added to it. I would not recommend going to this restaurant at all… Not even with a living social coupon.

Time for an update…I was really surprised to see Carmelitas down to 3 stars, until we stopped tonight. Hopefully, Jose, the manager reads this and makes some changes before they have no business at all.

This has been a twice a month stop for the last two years. Although we have seen service slip a bit over the last six months, I thought it was just a bad spell. But it has gotten so bad, I’m not going to waste my money here despite the decent food.

Service is slow, but on a Wednesday night with two guests in the restaurant it shouldn’t have been this bad. While our server sat at a table in the other section we waited and waited and waited and waited. She was more interested in watching TV and drinking soda, she truly neglected her job.

We observed a gentleman come in and be seated..
He waited nearly ten minutes by himself. The rude server told him that he could not get the fajita special for some reason…but that he could pay full price. As he got up to walk out, he commented that he understands why there were only two people in at dinner time. He will probably never return, over what?? a $2 difference??

Dinner was ok…I asked for raw onions on my taco salad…apparently that is an extra…50 cents extra for 6 to 8 small pieces of onion…and there was no lettuce in the salad.

Dinner was still tasty Carmelitas style which is why they get the two stars.

Bland bland bland. And did I mention the food is bland? Chips and salas are extra and the salsa is so bland it might as well be rotel! The carne asada tacos were filled with gristle so much poor hubby had to send them back. My enchiladas tasted like they were smothered in tomatoe paste. Really? This place is run by Mexicans who can’t cook mexican?? Amazing! No return trips here.

Average but not traditional. The food is supposedly traditional family recipes but I didn’t really taste anything special about it. It’s nowhere near as good as the other hole in the wall Mexican restaurants (many located around Pinellas Park) but I wouldn’t consider it horrible either. I had the Mexican Pizza and the portion was very generous. Server was nice and the ambience/decoration was decent. It was fun to eat here just once.

Time Takes It’s Toll …. I have been to this Carmelita’s many times over the years but not so much since 2009. No real reason other than available time to go and in a way, just lost interest in Mexican food. But did stop there to see if the reviews here on U.S. were accurate and that food quality was taking a dive, and yes, it has.

Things like tacos, burritos etc. are not the same size, they shrunk. How do restaurant owners think that customers won’t notice. A taco that used to be the width of the plate now is about half the width and the diameter is smaller. Even the filling is less. You’re getting a soft taco shell with token amounts of filling. It’s like Pork & Beans. A can of beans and one piece of pork to be able it to qualify as pork and beans.

Enchiladas were the same. Even the chips as in chips and salsa were less than fresh. I used to really like Carmelita’s, and is why I went there when I was out of the Mexican food mode to see if I could get back into it, and to check the reviews. Well, the reviews about the food were right, and I found that out by going there. Sorry Carmelita, the romance is over.

No longer the best mexican food in town! – For over 10 years I went to this restaurant because it used to be a great place to go for good authentic mexican food at a decent price. However, it has been going down for the last couple of years. I recently went to the Carmelitas in Largo (e.g. Tri City Plaza) and was horrified at the service, food, and cost!!! The waitress suggested an apple juice for the children, then promptly charged me extra because apple juice wasn’t part of the kid’s meal selection. I’ve had it with this place and will not be going back again!
